The CityCLIM consortium recently held a meeting at the administrative headquarters of one of our pilot regions in Thessaloniki. The gathering was a fantastic opportunity for partners to come together and discuss the project's progress, as well as the upcoming steps in our journey to advance urban climate services.
Productive Discussions and Workshops
In addition to regular updates on completed tasks and upcoming activities, the meeting venue fostered a collaborative and productive atmosphere. This led to several smaller workshops where consortium members were able to delve into the details, clarify technical and conceptual questions, and plan the next phases of development. These workshops were invaluable in refining our approaches and ensuring that all team members were aligned on the project's goals and methodologies.
New weather sensors installed!
The consortium also visited the newly installed weather sensors, including the final sensor that was set up in September in the village of Kalochori. Located west of the city, Kalochori is near the sea and characterized by a semi-urban infrastructure. The area is notably affected by sea breezes during the summer, making it a strategic location for monitoring urban climate dynamics.
With the installation of all required sensors completed, the Region of Central Macedonia is now ready to begin testing the MOS-based Heat Wave Information Services. Partners from Meteologix (MTL) are currently working on establishing a production environment for these services. Once set up, Thessaloniki will integrate the Heat Wave Information Services into their local systems and begin disseminating vital information to the public.
The consortium's visit to Thessaloniki and the progress made in sensor deployment and service integration mark significant advancements in the CityCLIM project. As the team continues to push forward, the project is well-positioned to deliver innovative solutions for urban climate resilience and adaptation.
Media Coverage by RTL Luxembourg
Adding to the event's excitement, a camera team from RTL Luxembourg was present to capture some highlights of the project. They filmed impressions and created videos showcasing the consortium's work, discussions, and the overall collaborative spirit of the meeting. This media coverage helps bring greater visibility to the CityCLIM project and our ongoing efforts to address urban climate challenges through innovative solutions.
The meeting in Thessaloniki was a vital step forward in our mission, reinforcing our commitment to developing tools and services that empower cities and their citizens to better understand and adapt to climate change. We look forward to continuing this momentum as we move ahead with the next stages of CityCLIM. See the resulting video below!
