Recap of Pilot cities: RTL Luxembourg

This is a short recap of the Pilot cities activities during the CityCLIM project. It does not cover all activities as they are described in the newsletters and former blog posts but some of the major contributions are described here.

RTL Luxembourg Collaborates with the City of Luxembourg to Boost Climate Monitoring and Public Awareness

RTL Luxembourg has partnered with the City of Luxembourg in a significant initiative aimed at improving climate monitoring and increasing public engagement around local weather conditions. This collaboration focuses on expanding the city's network of weather sensors and enhancing the dissemination of climate-related information to the public.

As part of the collaboration, RTL Luxembourg played a pivotal role in helping the city organize and install several additional weather sensors across key locations. These sensors provide valuable data on local weather conditions, particularly during periods of extreme heat. This expanded network of sensors is crucial for collecting real-time environmental data, which will inform both city planning and public safety efforts, particularly in the face of rising temperatures and climate change impacts.

Beyond assisting with the sensor installations, RTL Luxembourg took on a leading role in sharing the project’s results with the public. Through their media expertise, they produced a variety of videos and broadcast articles that aired on TV, providing in-depth coverage of the project’s developments and highlighting the importance of climate monitoring. These broadcasts helped raise public awareness of the city's efforts to tackle climate challenges and underscored the importance of staying informed about local weather conditions.

In addition to their broadcast coverage, RTL Luxembourg went a step further by integrating the UltraHD heat sensation service directly into their own website and app. This service, part of the broader CityCLIM initiative, offers real-time information on how heat is perceived across different areas of the city. By embedding this tool on their platforms, RTL Luxembourg made it easier for citizens to access critical heat data, helping them make informed decisions during hot days. Whether at home or on the go, residents can now quickly check the current heat levels in various parts of the city, find guidance on how to stay safe, and learn where to go for some relief from the heat.

Through this collaboration, RTL Luxembourg has not only contributed to improving the city’s climate resilience but also played an essential role in ensuring that citizens remain informed and engaged. Their efforts in both expanding the weather sensor network and disseminating critical climate information demonstrate their commitment to supporting the City of Luxembourg in its mission to create a safer, more climate-conscious community.
